Meet the Chillicothe Campus Dean
Mike Lafreniere was appointed dean of campus and community engagement on Monday, August 10, 2026, having served as interim dean for the preceding year. He has been a valued member of the Ohio University community since 1994.
Previously serving as special assistant to the associate vice provost for regional higher education and partnerships, Lafreniere has made significant contributions to the University's mission through his leadership, teaching and commitment to student success. He holds the tenure and rank of associate professor and teaches mathematics, focusing on both in-person and online education.
Lafreniere earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Florida. His professional background spans teaching, academic administration and consulting in both academic and industry settings.
As dean, Lafreniere works closely with faculty, staff and students to support the University's mission and maintain a focus on academic excellence, student engagement and community enrichment. He leads the campus in strengthening partnerships with regional employers, school districts, government and community organizations, and in expanding workforce programs, internships and career pathways that connect students to opportunity across southern Ohio.
Lafreniere succeeded Dr. Roberta Milliken, who made significant contributions to OHIO Chillicothe during her tenure as dean.
