Research Interests
Eating disorders are linked to over 10,000 deaths per year and cost almost $65 billion annually (Deloitte Access Economics, 2020). Although more than 28 million Americans will be affected by an eating disorder in their lifetime, even the best interventions fail to achieve symptom remission in most patients (Linardon et al., 2018; Linardon & Wade, 2018). My research program aims to alleviate the burden of eating disorders by 1) identifying for whom risk factors are most strongly linked to eating disorders to inform who should be targeted in preventative interventions and 2) elucidating causal mechanisms that contribute to eating disorder maintenance over time to inform interventions. I achieve these two aims through a program of research examining four domains of individual differences: interpersonal influences, components of binge-eating, gastrointestinal symptoms, and weight history. In doing so, I have begun to adopt open science practices and continue to strive to increase methodological rigor to further the impact of my work.
