Eirene N. Binabiba is a Ph.D. Student in Mass Communication in the Department of Media Arts and Studies with scholarly interests in digital advocacy, digital media and development, digital analytics and social media, and gender and women studies. Eirene earned her master’s in International Development at Ohio University, where she focused on gender and development and presented a capstone paper on the use of social media as a tool for advocacy among gender minorities in Ghana. Before that, Eirene received a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, where she majored in Theatre for Development.

While working on her master’s degree, Eirene served as the PR and Marketing Director for the International Student Union and managed all social communications for the organization. She also worked as the graduate assistant for the Women’s Center of Ohio University, contributing to advocating, educating, and creating awareness of issues relating to women and gender minorities on campus and in the Athens Community.

Outside academia, Eirene is the founder of the ENB Foundation, a non-profit organization in Ghana focused on tackling issues relating to women and children and fostering development in deprived areas. Aside from this, she also worked in the entertainment production industry as a production assistant at Viasat 1 television and moved to a production house as an account executive. She then worked as a creative and accounts manager in digital advertising. Eirene has also freelanced as a social media consultant and influencer and contributed to promoting high-end brands on social media platforms.
