About Provost Leo

Donald J. Leo, Ph.D. serves as the Executive Vice President and Provost. At Ohio University Dr. Leo manages the academic deans and a variety of offices that foster academic quality and student success. He is a professor of mechanical engineering.

Advance Ohio Higher Education Act Implementation Work

To comply with the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act (AOHEA), the Ohio University Board of Trustees passed the required AOHEA policies at its October meeting. The AOHEA policies will take effect on December 24, 2025. Vice Provost for Faculty Development Katie Hartman is working with the college associate deans to develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) that explain the processes that flow from the required AOHEA policies.

We play a key role in ensuring that academic excellence and high professional standards are hallmarks of Ohio University. Responsibilities include processes for program and curricular changes; academic program review and assessment; faculty hiring, promotion, and tenure; student tuition appeals and more. The office provides valuable resources for new and established faculty; deans, chairs, and directors; and students.

Accreditation at Ohio University

Ohio University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. While over 30 of the University’s academic programs are accredited by their own disciplinary accreditors, Ohio University as a whole is accredited by HLC; all of the University’s programs and units are covered by this institution-wide accreditation. HLC offers two different pathways to institutional accreditation. They are the Standard Pathway and the Open Pathway. Ohio University has been on the Open Pathway since 2019. The next HLC Comprehensive Evaluation and visit will occur during the 2034-35 academic year.
