Professor Geoff Buckley is new interim Associate Dean for the Honors Tutorial College

Geoff Buckley, Ph.D., has been appointed an interim Associate Dean in the Honors Tutorial College, effective July 15. Buckley takes the helm to oversee the Ohio Honors Program and 1804 Scholars Program during a celebratory year for HTC as the College celebrates its 50-year anniversary.

Buckley is a geography professor in the College of Arts and Sciences who specializes in urban sustainability, management of public lands, environmental justice, and the evolution of mining landscapes.

“It was imperative to find a person who is well respected in the Athens community as well as the University, who lives by a mantra of student success, above all is kind and, importantly, has what it takes to lead an honors program,” said Donal Skinner, dean of HTC. “I can think of none finer than Professor Geoff Buckley.”

“The OHIO Honors Program has grown and truly thrived over the past three years under the amazing leadership of Dr. Christy Zempter, who led the fledgling program through its launch, the pandemic and the program’s significant expansion,” Skinner said. “Ohio University and HTC are deeply indebted to her.”

“The achievements of our honors students never cease to amaze and inspire me,” Buckley said. “I am truly honored to join HTC at this stage in my career and look forward to building on the wonderful foundation Christy and her talented team have constructed.”
