About Blood Orange
Raised in England, Devonté Hynes started in the punk band Test Icicles before releasing two orchestral indie records as Lightspeed Champion. Since 2011, Hynes has released five critically-lauded albums as Blood Orange – Coastal Grooves, Cupid Deluxe, Freetown Sound, Negro Swan, Essex Honey, and 2019’s Angel’s Pulse mixtape. Dev’s writer and producer credits include songs for Mariah Carey, A$AP Rocky, and Solange. In 2024, he won a Latin GRAMMY (Best Alternative Song) for his song with Nathy Peluso "El Día Que Perdí Mi Juventud.” He is also an experienced film and television composer (Queen and Slim, We Are Who We Are, Passing, Master Gardener). Hynes also earned a nomination at the 2020 GRAMMYs (Best Chamber Music or Small Ensemble Performance) for his album with Third Coast Percussion, Fields. His debut Concerto for piano and strings, Happenings, premiered in 2021, and he has collaborated with major international orchestras for sold-out performances of his Selected Classical Works program.
