Bowditch is the director of the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab at Ohio University. The GRID Lab was founded in 2004 with a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to bring immersive technology education, research, and entrepreneurial support to southeast Ohio. Nearly a dozen companies have spun out of the GRID Lab since its founding. https://gridlab.ohio.edu

He is an associate professor of game development and virtual reality in the J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies in the Scripps College of Communication and was named Ohio University’s Outstanding Administrator of the year in 2019.

Bowditch has led over 25 funded research and development projects at Ohio University exceeding over $7 million in support. Sponsors have included the National Institutes of Health, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, Department of Labor, Department of Education, and the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center. He was the lead designer and inventor of the Immersive Video Intel Network (IVIN), a multi-tiered imaging technology developed for the Department of Homeland Security.
