Expert Bio

Mourning is an assistant professor of Computer Science at Ohio University. A native of Middleport, Ohio, Mourning received his Ph.D. from Ohio University in 2015.  His main research areas include Computer Graphics & Data Visualization, Modeling & Simulation, Augmented & Virtual Reality, Aviation Safety, Cybersecurity, and Machine Learning with applications in Meteorology. 

Before becoming faculty in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mourning served as a Research Computer Scientist for Ohio University’s Avionics Engineering Center, and maintains his role as lead developer on the Ohio University NAVAID Performance Prediction Model. 

Mourning is currently serving as Principal Investigator on the Low Altitude Weather Network project and has other ongoing funded projects by NASA, the Ohio Space Grant Consortium, the Ohio Cyber Range Institute, and the FAA. He is also the Director of Ohio University’s Choose Ohio First programs for Computer Science and Advanced Manufacturing.
