Activate Your OHIO ID
After you have been admitted, you will need to activate your OHIO ID, which is the key to most online services at Ohio University. Make sure you have your PID (Person Identification Number) ready when you activate your OHIO ID. Your PID can be found on your letter of admission.
Activate your OHIO ID.
If you have any problems activating your OHIO ID, please contact the OIT Service Desk at 740.593.1222 or submit a request online at www.ohio.edu/oitech.
Online courses will be available in Blackboard. If your computer does not have the proper hardware, Blackboard may run slowly or may not run at all. Prior to using Blackboard on your computer, compare your current system configuration with the Blackboard system requirements.
Once you have ensured that your computer has the proper operating system and hardware to run Blackboard, you should verify that your Internet connection is fast enough to support Blackboard. A connection speed test is available at www.pcpitstop.com/internet/bw.asp. If your Internet connection is slower than the recommended speed, you may encounter difficulties when loading pages, especially during peak usage times.
Use the browser checker to see if your Web browser conforms to Blackboard's standards. If you have an out-of-date or unsupported browser, you will need to download either a certified version of your current browser or a different certified browser before attempting to log into Blackboard.
Your browser must be configured properly as follows:
- Cookies must be enabled.
- Pop-up windows must be enabled.
At a minimum, you will need Java and Adobe Flash Player. You may need additional plug-ins if the course you are taking includes multimedia elements. To download the plug-ins you need, visit the Blackboard system requirements page.
Administrator access to the computer you are using is required in case there is a need to install new or updated software. Since you will need to have the ability to install software on your computer, it is recommended that you do not rely on a computer at work or at a public library.
Many computers use a firewall to block harmful programs and data from their computers. The default settings of the Windows and Mac OS built-in firewalls will not interfere with Blackboard; however, if you have customized your firewall settings or installed a third party firewall, you may need to reconfigure those settings to allow Blackboard to operate properly. For assistance making changes to your computer's firewall, contact the Office of Information Technology by email at email@example.com or call 740.593.1222.
