Biography
Dr. Timothy J. Cain is an associate professor of biomedical sciences and an associate scientist in the Office of the Vice President for Research at Ohio University. Dr. Cain is an experienced strategist and innovator with more than 30 years of progressively increasing leadership responsibility in higher education, with specific expertise in academic technologies planning, design, and deployment. He has hands-on experience guiding the development of high-performing teams, applied informatics solutions, and knowledge-based systems from early concept through successful implementation and adoption.
In 2013, Dr. Cain was tapped by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) to lead the development of a scalable, extensible knowledge-management strategy capable of improving statewide visibility of experts, research capabilities, and shareable university resources across Ohio’s research-active institutions. This effort resulted in the launch of the Ohio Innovation Exchange (OIEx) in October 2018—a first-in-the-nation digital platform that now connects nearly all research-active universities across the State, integrates more than half a million scholarly records, and provides businesses, industry partners, and economic development organizations with a clearer view of the state’s research strengths.
