Biography

Oumarou Abdoulaye Balarabe is Associate Director of Scholar Development in the Honors Tutorial College, where he supports students in various scholarship programs, including the Templeton, Rankin, Urban, Appalachian, and Boyd Scholars, within the Ohio Honors Program. In this role, he works to foster leadership, community-based scholars initiatives, academic excellence, and scholar engagement through research, mentoring, programming, professional development, and teaching.

Research & Scholarship

Oumarou’s research and professional interests include:

  • Higher education leadership and policy with a focus on access and equity.
  • College student development, especially strength-based and culturally responsive practices that foster college student academic, social, and psychological engagement and well-being (defined as thriving).
  • International education and scholar development, emphasizing global perspectives on student success. 

He has published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Appreciative Education, Journal of Thought, and Teachers College Record, and co-authored the book Helping College Students Write: A Guide for Educators (Routledge, 2024). His scholarly contributions also include presentations at international, national, and regional conferences.
