Biography
Muriel Gallego is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics-Spanish and regularly teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the teaching and learning of additional languages, language teacher education, critical pedagogies for additional languages, and Hispanic sociolinguistics. She also serves the department as a Language Program Director and TA coordinator.
Her current research and teaching interests include language teacher education and the professional development of language graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), with particular emphasis on the integration of critical pedagogies in language teaching; the design and implementation of task-based and task-supported language instruction informed by critical theoretical frameworks; and the cultivation of critical, justice-oriented educational spaces and pedagogical practices.
She has served as an AP reader, as an AAUSC Spanish section convener, and as an external reviewer for numerous grant competitions for the US Department of Education. She is a member of the directorate board as a Faculty-in-Residence elect for the Commission for Global Dimensions of Student Development (CGDSD) - ACPA College Students Educators International.
