Molly Maloney

Molly Maloney is accepting graduate students for the 2027-2028 academic year.

My program of research aims to improve the prediction and prevention of interpersonal violence (intimate partner violence, sexual assault) and substance use, with an emphasis on investigating and intervening at their intersection. With the goal of informing integrated interventions for interpersonal violence and substance use, I use laboratory experiments, alcohol administration, survey research, meta-analysis, and ecological momentary assessment to clarify risk and protective factors for these intersecting public health concerns. Then, I translate these findings into novel interventions to reduce substance use and interpersonal violence using community-engaged treatment development methods.

While interpersonal violence and substance use touch the lives of all people, they are more prevalent among communities pushed to the margins of society. I am committed to centering these systemically excluded and marginalized voices through inclusive research design and developing and adapting interventions to meet the unique needs of these communities.
