Karen Mammone

Karen Mammone is originally from Massachusetts and earned a B.A. in Zoology at the University of New Hampshire. Upon graduation I attended graduate school at Frostburg State University, Md. After earning my M.S. in wildlife ecology and conservation, I moved to Athens, where I have been a faculty member in the Biological Sciences Department at Ohio University since 1998.

I currently teach courses in human biology, animal diversity and marine invertebrates and ecology. I have had an unusually strong bond with non-human animals since I was a child that has only grown stronger as I have learned more about them. My interests range from the birds in my backyard to the animals that inhabit the tropical coral reefs I snorkel. In both my professional and personal life I have found that the love and enthusiasm I carry for nature is infectious to those around me and that students leave my classes seeing at least one thing differently in the world around them.
