Biography
David is the Nandola Professor of Business and an Associate Professor of Strategic Management and Leadership in the College of Business at Ohio University. David received his bachelor's degree in finance from Brigham Young University, his MBA from Babson College, and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. His research interests include organizational resource management, corporate governance, organization development and change, and entrepreneurship. David’s business experience includes involvement with corporate and startup organizations as well as organization-development consulting. Some of David's awards include: College of Business Excellence in Teaching Award for outstanding teaching and leadership in the classroom, College of Business Outstanding Scholar Award, Highest Ranked/Impact Journal Publication, and College of Business Senior Class Faculty Recognition Award.
Kahandas Nandola Professorship
In May 2019, David Boss was awarded the Kahandas Nandola Professorship. The purpose of the Nandola Professorship is to honor Dr. Kahandas Nandola by recognizing and rewarding up-and-coming, young "rising star" faculty who excel in teaching and research in the College of Business at Ohio University. A person holding the Kahandas Nandola Professorship is expected to excel both in teaching and research, thus performing above average for his/her peers in the COB. The primary donor behind this professorship is Stanley A. Williams '79 and the second largest donor is James M. Matesich '87.
Kahandas Nandola (1935-2017) took a marketing professorship position at Ohio University in 1971. He founded the Executive MBA program at Ohio University and had the opportunity to graduate 26 classes during his tenure as program director. He retired from OHIO in 2006.
Dr. Stanley Williams, DDS, of Sarasota, FL, earned an Executive MBA (EMBA) at Ohio University in 1979 and was influenced by Professor of Business Kahandas Nandola and Professor of Economics Rajindar Koshal — two faculty he honored with a gift to the university. Williams credits the real-world feedback he received from these and other Ohio University professors with empowering him to become a successful businessman and entrepreneur.
"In 1977 when we were recruiting our very first EMBA class it was extremely rare for a practicing professional, such as a physician or dentist, to seek admission," said Nandola. "Dr. Williams was a pioneer in that sense. He definitely believed the EMBA would help him in his profession. I believe he benefited a great deal from his EMBA experience as evidenced by the success he enjoyed. He was able to switch careers, reflecting his vision and his passion for what he believed in."
Williams began his solo dental practice in 1968 and built a large dental center, which he sold in 1984. Even in his dental career, he began applying progressive business principals to evolve his practice into a thriving, profitable dental business. He went on to develop several townhouses and large single-family homes in Maryland, and to managing various private equity investments.
