Biography

Brad Sutterfield is the Field Coordinator for the Ohio University Community Health Worker Training Program. As the Field Coordinator, Brad provides field support for the training program. His role is community-facing, representing the community health worker training program in the community. He works closely with the CHW training program participants during their experiential field learning to ensure that all participants have a meaningful and educational experience.

Community Health Workers serve in a variety of roles to promote wellness and help individuals access needed resources, including healthcare, especially for underserved populations. The training program prepares participants to collaborate with community groups, work for social service agencies, or be a part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Participants that successfully complete the training program are eligible to apply for certification as a CHW through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Certified CHWs have gone on to work in health departments, behavioral health organizations, food pantries, hospitals, and more.

Brad has a background in community and behavioral health. He previously worked in behavioral health providing crisis stabilization and nursing services to adults in a mental health crisis. More recently, Brad was a Community Intervention Facilitator and Data Reporting Analyst on the HEALing Communities Study, a large research study aimed at reducing opioid overdose deaths in communities highly impacted by the opioid crisis. He is enthusiastic about prevention, wellness, and individual and community health. He received his Bachelor of Science in nursing from Capital University and is a Registered Nurse.
