Doctor of Clinical Audiology

The Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a world-class, continuous, four-year, full-time clinical doctoral program in audiology. We offer students access to state-of-the art facilities and equipment, a variety of clinical experiences, and possibilities for mentored research experiences with a diverse, energetic, dedicated, and productive faculty who work closely with students in a positive and encouraging environment.

The three components of the doctorate—coursework, clinical practicum and research training—are integrated into a sequential program. Upon completion of the program, candidates are prepared to provide comprehensive clinical services in prevention, identification, assessment and treatment of individuals with disorders of hearing, balance and other neural systems. They will also be able to function as administrators and advocates for the discipline.

The Clinical Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) degree at Ohio University provides numerous distinctive opportunities, including:

  • Ample and diverse clinical experiences and settings.
  • A nationwide network of clinical externship sites preceded by clinical experience, professional practicum seminar and classwork.
  • Engagement with multicultural, multinational and multilingual students and faculty.
  • Dedicated personalized clinical supervision from seasoned clinicians.
  • Participation in a university and local community that offers a safe and picturesque environment.

The Au.D. is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The curriculum meets the standards required for certification and the program is set up to satisfy the new standards on outcome assessments. The doctorate of clinical audiology education program at Ohio University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard #310, Rockville, Maryland 20850, 800.498.2071 or 301.296.5700. Integrated Au.D./Ph.D. Program

Clinical doctorate in audiology degree applicants who are interested in academic careers and who demonstrate potential for doctoral study may request consideration for admission to the Integrated Au.D./Ph.D. program. This program is for students who are certain they wish to pursue a Ph.D. and receive the Au.D. degree along the way. Upon completion of the program, the student will have completed the clinical doctorate of audiology as well as a doctorate of philosophy in hearing science. This allows for maximum efficiency and permits the student to pursue research and clinical training simultaneously, rather than sequentially. The purpose of this program is to nurture and guide students with excellent potential while integrating clinical doctorate and doctoral coursework, research and clinical experiences.

If you would like to be considered for the special admission to the Integrated Au.D./Ph.D. program, please provide a brief description of your interest in doctoral study within the body of your essay that accompanies your completed application materials.

Important Note for Students: If you are considering an academic program that leads to a professional license in your state, it is highly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing agency in your home state BEFORE beginning the academic program located outside your state. Academic programs and individual graduates must meet standards set by that state in order to be eligible for a license. If you experience difficulty finding the licensure requirements for your state, please contact the program advisor or the compliance coordinator at Ohio University for help. Eligibility for licensure and/or certification may involve more than successful degree completion.
