What are the admissions requirements for the Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S.?

Pre-Integrated Healthcare Studies

Students who do not meet the specific admissions criteria listed below for the Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. may apply as a non-degree student and take courses toward being admitted to the degree program (financial aid eligibility may be impacted for a non-degree student). 

ND6357 is the non-degree or pre-degree code for the BS6358 (OHIO Online fully online delivery) Integrated Healthcare Studies program.

ND6340 is the non-degree or pre-degree code for the BS6341 (on-campus and online delivery) Integrated Healthcare Studies program.

Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. Admissions

The admissions criteria are as follows: 

  • Minimum 60 hours of credit in a health-related field (e.g., health technology, human services technology, health information management, respiratory care, physical therapist assistant). To further qualify, the student must also have completed the following:
    • One course in mathematics, logic, statistics, or quantitative reasoning
    • One course in English composition
    • One course in biological or natural sciences
    • One course in psychology, sociology, social work, or social sciences
    • At least 9 semester hours in additional courses with a health or medical focus such as: First Aid and CPR/AED, Medical Terminology, and courses with the Ohio University prefixes of BIOS (Biological Sciences), HTCH (Health Technology), HST (Human Services Technology) or HLTH (Health). Other courses will be considered to meet this requirement depending on their relevancy.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 (C).

Please contact the appropriate institution and request that they send your official transcript to the above address. If you take courses at another University during your time as an Ohio University student, be sure to send updated transcripts to the correct address above.

Can I complete the entire Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. online?

Yes. The entire Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. can be completed online through OHIO Online. Although not all courses will be offered on OHIO Online every semester, there will be options to meet any requirements you need. Please register at your enrollment time to ensure you are able to register for the classes you need. We cannot guarantee seats will stay open if students register late.

Is the Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. a direct path for professional programs (ex. Physician Assistant, Physical Therapist, Medical School, etc.)?

The Integrated Healthcare Studies Bachelor of Science degree is not a direct route to professional programs. This is because most professional programs require that students complete at least one year of college coursework (including both lecture and lab components) in biology, general/inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, to meet their admission requirements.

For students who are planning to apply to apply to a professional program, we encourage you to research the requirements of the schools you plan to apply. You may complete these required courses in addition to the courses required for the Integrated Healthcare Studies B.S. to qualify yourself for the program of your choice.

These advanced biology and chemistry courses are not available in an online format through Ohio University. You may be able to complete these courses at our Athens Campus or at another 4-year college near you.
