DAVID LYNCH FESTIVAL AT THE ATHENA

ATHENS, OH – The Athena Cinema announces a special fall film series featuring films directed by David Lynch. This mini-retrospective is a rare opportunity to see these cult favorites on a big screen, with big sound—a wholly cinematic experience that small screens simply cannot equal. A cinematic auteur of the first rank, Lynch has garnered international praise and multiple awards for films such as ELEPHANT MAN, BLUE VELVET, and MULHOLLAND DRIVE. Lynch’s television series TWIN PEAKS enjoys status as both a critically acclaimed series, and a die-hard fan cult favorite since it first aired in 1990. Lynch’s film are filled with surreal, often absurd circumstances with some of the most memorable characters in the history of film: Merrick, from ERASERHEAD, the psychopath Frank Booth in BLUE VELVET, or Agent Dale Cooper in TWIN PEAKS. As Lynch himself puts it, “This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top.” ELEPHANT MAN kicks off the series on Sunday September 7, 7:00 pm, with a repeat screening Monday September 8, 7:00 pm. Further screenings follow every Sunday and Monday evening, through October 26 & 27. The complete series includes: ELEPHANT MAN, DUNE, BLUE VELVET, WILD AT HEART, TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME, LOST HIGHWAY, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, and ERASERHEAD. The Film Division at Ohio University will be holding general on-camera auditions for the Spring 2015 film projects on Sunday, November 2nd Directors of over 25 student film productions from the MFA Film Program are looking for actors of all ages - no previous acting experience is necessary. The Ohio University’s Film Division is a highly competitive MFA Program offering diverse practical training to graduate students from across the world. Over the course of three years the filmmakers build a professional portfolio of film-work that emphasizes their unique visions as artists and craftsmen. The General Auditions is a perfect opportunity to showcase your talent and to meet the filmmakers face to face. It is an excellent way to gain on set and on camera experience, and to add an exciting material to your demo reel. It is an invitation to build long-term relationships with the future industry frontrunners. The films are made under the SAG/AFTRA Student Film Agreement - current union members are welcomed. Screening: Letters from South

Letters from South(2013) is a compilation of six short films made by directors from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar and China. The collections deal with the Chinese diasporic experiences around Southeast Asian region. The collection has been shown in Busan Film Festival in South Korea, International Film Festival Rotterdam and Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan.
