Kennedy Southwest Native American Collection

Drawn from the Museum’s outstanding collection of Southwest Native American weavings and jewelry items, the exhibition features a rare assemblage of Navajo sandpainting textiles. For more information visit their website or call 740-593-1304.

Cultural Connections Visitation Program

Cultural Connections is sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for admitted multicultural students and families.  The visitation program allows prospective students to learn more about the university and tour the University’s facilities. “Creole Africaine: Celebrating the Many Cultures of Africa”

2nd Annual Concert of African Dance and Music

Time:  8:00 pm

Location:  Kantner Hall, Elizabeth Baker Theatre

This concert, arranged, choreographed and composed by Zelma Badu-Younge (OU’s School of Music), will feature traditional and contemporary dancing, drumming and singing from West Africa, North Africa, Brazil “Capoeira”, and the Caribbean.  Authentic traditional instruments as well as traditional & contemporary costumes will be used. This event is presented by the School of Dance in collaboration with African Studies, African-American Studies and International Studies.  $10 general admission, $8 students. Concert general admission is $10 with $8 student admission.  The free workshop will be in both African dance and music.

--Dream Catcher Workshop

Members of the Native Peoples Awareness Coalition will teach how to make a Dream Catcher while explaining its cultural significance and design.  Attendees can make two dream catchers and leave one with the group to use as a fundraising tool.
