Ohio University will host two events on campus, on Monday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 19 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Baker University Center Theater, featuring renowned speakers on entrepreneurship in celebration of the eight annual Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). GEW is the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurship, with events in 157 countries garnering over eight million participants every year.

The first event, from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in the Baker University Center Theater, will focus on promoting innovation around the world. An engaging discussion by Foreign Service Officer, Randy Fleitman, will bring attention to the world of international economic development and the role global entrepreneurship plays in achieving a more secure, democratic and prosperous world. He will speak about how the U.S. State Department, U.S. embassies and other U.S. government agencies promote innovation, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth to create global market opportunities for U.S. exporters and investors and will also welcome questions about State Department careers and life in Foreign Service.

Since 1986, Fleitman’s career as Foreign Service Officer has focused on poverty reduction and inclusive economic development through market-based investment and trade. Currently the Director of Textile Trade in the office of U.S. Trade Representative, he works on textile issues stemming from free trade agreements and trade benefit programs. Among his previous positions, Fleitman served as deputy director of the Office of Intellectual Property Enforcement in the State Department’s Bureau of Economic Affairs, where he focused on promoting innovation and technology transfer.

The second event, 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Baker University Center Theater, will focus on how to become a world changer by crushing mediocrity. René Banglesdorf, CEO of Charlie Bravo Aviation, will tackle questions such as “You want to change the world but aren’t sure how to do it,” “What happens when life happens,” and “What can you do today to set yourself up for success?” In honor of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, Banglesdorf will also speak on how women need to challenge themselves to strive for excellence in business and in life.

Banglesdorf’s company, Charlie Bravo Aviation, became the first broker and dealer of aircrafts to be certified as woman-owned in 2009. Banglesdorf is a leading voice for women in the business aviation industry and an active member of the Women Presidents Organization, International Aviation Women’s Association, the National Business Aircraft Association and the National Transportation Association President’s Council.

This seminar is sponsored by the Center for Entrepreneurship, Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, TechGROWTH Ohio, OHIO Women in Business and ohiowomen.
