As ​a​ ​member​ ​of​ ​GSS​, Patricia ​is particularly interested in raising attention to the challenges that graduate students face, ​not​ ​only​ ​inside​ ​the​ ​university,​ ​but​ ​in​ ​the​ ​larger Southeastern Ohio community.​ ​Her goal​ ​is​ ​to​ ​give​ ​students​ ​a​ ​voice,​ ​get​ ​them​ ​more​ ​involved​, ​and​ ​help​ ​them​ ​realize​ ​that​ ​together,​ ​we can​ ​make​ ​a​ ​change.

Patricia​ ​is​ ​a​ ​graduate​ ​student​​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Translational​ ​Biomedical Sciences​ ​Doctoral Program​ ​researching​ ​Tropical​ ​Neglected​ ​Diseases.​ ​Her​ ​goal​ ​is​ ​to​ ​design​ ​new strategies​ ​for​ ​control,​ ​diagnosis​ ​and​ ​eradication​ ​of​ ​transmission​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Chagas​ ​disease​ ​in Ecuador.​ ​After​ ​finishing​ ​the​ ​program,​ ​Patricia​ ​plans​ ​to​ ​return​ ​to​ ​Ecuador​ ​and​ ​continue​ ​her research​ ​in​ ​collaboration​ ​with​ ​Ohio University ​and​ ​Pontifical​ ​Catholic​ ​University.
