Uniform Work Rules
11/2025
Purpose: To establish uniform guidelines for Facilities Employees
- Facilities will follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article 40.
- All employees will be required to wear the appropriate uniform, consisting of blue jeans, and a proper uniform shirt (purchased from the University), slip resistant shoes, OHIO ID badge, and an OHIO University branded hat or a plain, non-branded hat. Any employee required to wear FR (fire resistant) clothing must follow the Facilities Management Arc-Rated Clothing protocol.
- Blue Jeans and shorts (or appropriate khaki material)
- Pants/shorts must be clean, hemmed, professional looking without adornment and in good repair.
- Holes, tears, and fraying are not permitted.
- Permanent stains are not allowed.
- Must be appropriate fit.
- Shorts will not be worn when they do not provide adequate protection for the job performed (for example: weed eating etc.)
- Refer to FR policy if applicable.
- Slip Resistant Shoes (must be closed toe and heel)
- Must have appropriate tread.
- Must not be worn out or torn.
- Will be a notation on all incident reports if the appropriate shoes are worn and if the shoes are in proper condition.
- Refer to FR policy if applicable.
- Shirts
- Provided by the University
- Must be clean, in good shape (no tears, holes or permanent stains)
- Must be buttoned.
- Can be worn over another shirt and buttoned.
- If damaged at work, Manager must be informed and incident report filled out.
- Refer to FR policy if applicable.
- Blue Jeans and shorts (or appropriate khaki material)
- Uniforms must be worn every day of the week
- Outerwear may be worn over the uniform during inclement weather when working outside
- Failure to comply with the Uniform rules will result in the following:
- If the employee shows up at work with an improper uniform, they will be sent home on their own time to correct the issue.
- If the employee damages their uniform while at work, they need to contact their supervisor to see if an incident report needs to be filled out. Then, if the damage is too severe, they will be allowed to go home on the University’s time to correct the uniform or be allowed to complete the day with the damaged uniform if it is still wearable.
