Welcome the 2022 English for Graduate Studies Program at Ohio University (EGSP@OHIO)!

We look forward to welcoming you to campus and the quaint city of Athens, Ohio.

Columbus, Ohio, airport
OPIE will arrange to have you picked up at the Columbus, Ohio, airport when you arrive.

Travel: You should make arrangements to fly into the Columbus, Ohio, airport. The official name for the airport is John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). When you have your official flight itinerary, please send it to Aaron Schwartz at schwara1@ohio.edu and CC opie@ohio.edu. We will make arrangements for someone to pick you up at the airport and bring you to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Housing: We have already made arrangements for your housing at Ohio University. You will have a private room in an on-campus residence hall near the other Fulbright pre-academic program participants.

OPIE has a long history of hosting the Fulbright EGSP and we hope that you will find the program as beneficial as previous participants have.

The goals of EGSP@OHIO are:

  • To prepare you for successful integration into community life and graduate study at U.S. institutions of higher education
  • To provide you with opportunities to improve English language skills, particularly in academic settings
  • To introduce you to the language, tools, and techniques used in academic settings
  • To introduce you to the expectations, procedures, and customs of university academic life
  • To make your aware of the funding support from the Department of State and the Institute of International Education’s role as administrator of the program.

Courses and Workshops: During our program, you will participate in a series of courses and workshops designed to help prepare you for graduate academic study and cultural adjustment. You will work with other Fulbright grantees to engage in a small research project.

Throughout the program, you will be encouraged and expected to use English for academic purposes. This is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with U.S. culture in a low-stakes environment and make connections with other Fulbright grantees prior to establishing yourself at your new university.

We hope you will make the most of this opportunity. We are very much looking forward to meeting you all.

Sincerely,

Aaron Schwartz, Director 2022 Fulbright Pre-academic program
