History
Built in 1956, Gamertsfelder Hall is the largest residence hall on East Green and originally housed 300 male students.
Walter Sylvester Gamertsfelder
Gamertsfelder Hall was named in honor of Walter S. Gamertsfelder the thirteenth president of Ohio University. He was a native of Warsaw, Coshocton County, OH. Educated at Brink Haven High School, North Central College, Evangelical Theological Seminary, Ohio State University, and Bowling Green State University. He was professor of Ethics and Philosophy and an author of many books. One of his colleagues described him as "a man of discipline, faith, humor, kindness, and a lover of life".
