The Green Network
The Green Network is a coalition of Ohio University students, faculty and staff who are dedicated to advancing campus sustainability initiatives. Their mission is to find ways that we as a campus community can foster environmental stewardship and resource conservation. GN provides an opportunity to expand our campus sustainability efforts.
We encourage our peers to be aware of the impact of their actions and to make small changes, such as:
- Turning off lights when the room is empty
- Printing on both sides of a sheet of paper, and recycling paper that cannot be reused
- Enabling 'sleep' mode on office computers
- Turning off computers that are not in use
- Advocating the purchase of energy-efficient office equipment
These are small changes at the individual level. Taken together, the effect is enormous. Not only are we lowering Ohio University's utility and waste bills - thereby freeing up funds for other priorities - but we are also reducing greenhouse gas emissions from power plants that provide Ohio University with electricity.

Wildlife Biology Club
The Wildlife Biology Club enjoys being outdoors, viewing wildlife while hiking and sharing thoughts and ideals regarding our earth. Currently, their main project is the Oxbow Restoration Initiative. The Oxbow Restoration Initiative seeks to study, clean up and hopefully restore the Oxbow stream on the Athens campus, which was the channel of the Hocking River before it was redirected around campus. Ideas include leaving the natural vegetation around the stream to act as a filtration system as well as a natural habitat for wildlife. Incorporating in other native species around the stream has also been discussed.
