Response to Race Based Violence
Survivor Advocacy Program Condemns All Forms of Violence
The Survivor Advocacy Program (SAP) strongly condemns the continued acts of violence towards Black individuals and communities that have been a part of our society for far too long. The murder of Minneapolis resident George Floyd on May 25, 2020 is not an isolated case. We grieve the loss of George as well as Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless others who have lost their lives in a series of race-based violence across our country.
We recognize the impact that discrimination, racism, prejudice, and stereotyping have on well-being and we also recognize that systems of violence are interconnected. In order to end sexual violence, all others forms of violence must end as well. For that to happen, we must not be silent.
SAP recognizes the disproportionate rate that racial and sexual violence occur against the Black community. We commit to continuously educating ourselves and to confront prejudice within our work and personal lives. We commit to being an open, supportive, and affirming environment for our student survivors from the Black community. We commit to active allyship.

To all those hurting, especially those in the Black community, know that we see you, we hear you, and we stand with you.
