CLDC Response to Racial Violence
The Career & Leadership Development Center condemns the systemic intolerance and injustice experienced by Black people. We express our grief, sorrow and compassion to all those who have and continue to be impacted by tragedies fueled by racism occurring across our nation. We strongly oppose discrimination, hate, and intolerance and stand in solidarity with our Black students, faculty, and staff. We believe Black lives matter.
The CLDC pledges to confront the traumatic and unjust impact of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination by challenging ourselves, our perceptions, values, and priorities. We will evaluate our programs, services, and partnerships with employers to ensure we are maximizing our potential to create just and inclusive opportunities for Black students.
Saying we believe Black lives matter is important but it has to be followed by action to have a lasting impact. Our team is in the midst of coordinating plans to intentionally expand opportunities specifically for Black students and other people of color. Specific action items will be shared below as they are developed during fall semester 2020.
The CLDC Employer Relations Team will update the existing employer audit related to diversity and inclusion practices in their respective organizations. The instrument's scoring method will be refined, the population of employers audited will be expanded, and a new process will be established for how results are shared.
The CLDC Black Student-Athlete Initiative will address persistent opportunity and leadership deficits faced by Black male students at Ohio University. We plan to do this by providing professional development and collaborating with the Division of Diversity and Inclusion in order to provide supplemental development and collaborative services and events.
