The Office of Research Compliance – Who to Contact Guide
1) Who Are We & What We Do-
The Office of Research Compliance supports ethical and compliant research involving human participants and animal subjects at OHIO. We oversee the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), ensuring all research meets federal, state, and institutional standards. We also manage the Cayuse Human Ethics and Cayuse Animal Oversight modules, which serve as the online platforms for submitting, reviewing, and tracking IRB and IACUC protocols. Additionally, we oversee the Conflict of Interest in Sponsored Programs process and the Outside Interests module in Cayuse, which facilitates the disclosure and management of financial and personal interests to ensure transparency and integrity in research.

5) How to Best Interact with Us-
- Have your protocol number ready (IRB or IACUC) when reaching out via phone or email; it helps us address your question(s) more efficiently.
- For students, when reaching out with questions about your IRB submission, please include your faculty advisor in the email. This ensures they’re aware of your inquiry and our response, which helps support your learning and keeps everyone on the same page.
Feeling stuck? Please reach out to the analyst assigned to your submission first, connecting early can help avoid frustration and get you the most direct support.
6) Identifying your IRB Analyst- Please follow along with the (3) steps below.
1. To identify the IRB Analyst assigned to your submission, first locate your list of studies under the “My Studies” menu. Next, click on the protocol number hyperlink. Alternatively, you can click on the “Studies” tab on the top navigation ribbon to view your studies.
2. The following page that populates will contain your study details. In the middle of the screen, you will see a hyperlink of the submission type. In this example, the submission is an Initial submission. Click on the hyperlink.
3. The name of your IRB analyst will be displayed in the center left of the page under “Current Analyst”. In the example below, Andy Analyst is the assigned Analyst. Again, your IRB analyst should be your first point of contact for questions about the submission.
