VisCom to host Getty Images sports photographers and OHIO alums for artist talk, exhibition on Nov. 18

Two accomplished sports photographers and Ohio University alumni, Maddie Meyer, BSVC ’15, and Sarah Stier, BSVC ’18, will share their experiences and showcase their work during an artist talk hosted by the Scripps College of Communication’s School of Visual Communication at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Schoonover Center 145.

Both Meyer and Stier are staff photographers for Getty Images. The accompanying exhibition, featuring their sports photography, will be on display in the VisCom Focus Gallery from Nov. 11, 2026, through Jan. 9, 2027.

The event also coincides with the launch of VisCom’s new sports photography certificate, which prepares students with the creative and strategic skills needed to pursue careers in the sports industry. Designed for individuals interested in sports and media, the program provides a foundation in branding, digital content creation, fan engagement and sponsorship marketing.

Meyer, based in Boston, Mass., regularly covers New England professional sports teams, including the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. Her international assignments have included the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and PyeongChang, the Men’s and Women’s World Cups and the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Stier, based in New York City, specializes in sports photography, particularly boxing and aquatics. Her work focuses on capturing the complete story of a sporting event, from beginning to end, including the split-second moments of emotion that define athletic competition.

The event and exhibition are free and open to the public. More information can be found at https://calendar.ohio.edu/event/beyond-sports-exhibit.
