Ohio University’s online RN to BSN program named best in the nation out of public universities by AllNurses.com

Ohio University’s online RN to BSN program has been recognized as the top program in the nation out of public universities by AllNurses.com, further solidifying OHIO’s reputation for excellence in nursing and healthcare education. AllNurses.com’s 2026 rankings evaluate online nursing programs based on factors including academic quality, accessibility, affordability and student outcomes.

The recognition follows a major refresh of OHIO’s online RN to BSN curriculum designed to align with the updated American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials and the evolving needs of the nursing profession. The redesigned curriculum incorporates competency-based education, leadership development, informatics, patient safety, public health and social determinants of health.

“Our goal is to create an educational experience that is rigorous, relevant and accessible to nurses who are already serving their patients and communities,” said Char Miller, executive director of Ohio University’s School of Nursing. “This recognition speaks to the dedication of our faculty and the strength of a program that allows working nurses to continue building their knowledge and leadership skills without stepping away from their careers.”

The fully online program is designed around the needs of working registered nurses, allowing students to complete coursework asynchronously while balancing professional and personal responsibilities. The program offers eight start dates each year, flexible five-week nursing courses and opportunities for students to progress at their own pace.

OHIO has continued to receive national recognition across a wide range of healthcare and graduate programs including OHIO’s online master’s in nursing program being ranked 12th in the nation the last two years and second in the state of Ohio among public institutions, and being ranked fourth for best online master’s in nursing for Veterans and first in the state, by U.S. News and World Report. OHIO’s nurse practitioner program also ranked third in Ohio and the online BSN to DNP program ranked second nationally by AllNurses.com

Nurse.org also ranked Ohio University’s online RN to BSN program as the top program in Ohio and the third-best asynchronous online RN to BSN program in the nation.

OHIO’s commitment to expanding nursing education also includes new opportunities across its regional campuses. Ohio University Lancaster plans to launch an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program in Spring 2027, pending final approvals, expanding access to nursing education for students in Fairfield County and surrounding communities.

Recently, OHIO’s School of Nursing also graduated its largest class of nursing students from the Athens Campus with 124 graduates.
