Honors Tutorial College ranked among best honors colleges in the nation

Ohio University’s commitment to providing high-achieving students with the flexibility to pursue their academic interests through the Honors Tutorial College was recently recognized nationally. 

College Transitions recently ranked OHIO’s Honors Tutorial College 12th on its list of the 50 Best Honors Colleges for 2026. The number 12 ranking is a significant increase, recognizing the Honors Tutorial College’s continued success and improvement.

Based on the centuries-old models of Oxford and Cambridge, the Honors Tutorial College (HTC) is the oldest degree-granting college of its kind in the United States, and the tutorial programs serve approximately 340 students across more than 30 programs of study. Every tutorial in every major is different, but they all offer intensified, accelerated learning within the context of a unique partnership with a faculty member.

HTC Dean Kristina Bross was happy to see the college receive this recognition.

“Our alumni know what an amazing education our honors students receive at Ohio University. This jump in the rankings will help make it easier for more great students to find us and aspire to the unique tutorial model we offer,” Bross said.

College Transitions specifically highlighted HTC’s one-on-one and small group faculty mentorship, student-led approach to research and access to scholarships, financial aid and other funding opportunities to support their academic exploration.

Bross is excited to building on this marker of success, explaining that “students have been able to pursue honors through our tutorial model of one-on-one instruction for more than fifty years. We look forward to continuing our strong tradition of offering challenging coursework and fostering independent thinking through our 33 tutorial majors and also through our younger OHIO Honors Program, founded in 2019, which expands the benefits of honors to other majors across the University”
