OHIO colleges to host regional competition for Scripps National Spelling Bee on Feb. 28
The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in the Scripps College of Communication is partnering with the Patton College of Education to host this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee Regional Competition on the Ohio University campus on Feb. 28.
The spelling bee is open to elementary and middle school students across the region and will be held from 10 a.m. - noon in Baker University Center, Room 240/242. The public is welcome to attend. The winner will go to the national championship in Washington, D.C. on May 26-28.
This is the second year that both colleges have teamed up to host the regional competition. The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism is providing the emcee, Visiting Professor Chuck Borghese, and the pronouncer, assistant pronouncer, three judges and a record keeper for the event.
The Patton College of Education is organizing a group of undergraduate teacher candidates and center literacy ambassadors to welcome spellers and families, answer questions, serve as ushers and much more.
