Cobb named director of TRIO Student Support Services

Ohio University is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Cobb as the new director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), effective Dec. 1, 2025.

In her role, Cobb will provide leadership for Ohio University’s SSS program, which is designed to support first-generation students, students from low-income backgrounds, and students with disabilities in their academic persistence and degree completion. She will work closely with campus partners to advance student success through holistic advising, academic support and advocacy.

In addition, Cobb will lead efforts to strengthen program effectiveness, ensure compliance with federal guidelines, and expand collaborative approaches that connect TRIO students with institutional resources across academic affairs, student affairs, and enrollment-related units. Her work will align with Ohio University’s broader commitment to student success and inclusive excellence.

Joy Cobb brings a deep understanding of the students TRIO serves and the systems needed to support them, and we are excited to welcome her to this important leadership role,” said University College Dean Dave Nguyen.

The Trio SSS program, which is housed in University College, is currently recruiting participants from across the University. Students can learn more about TRIO and apply to the program on the TRIO website.

OHIO faculty and staff are also encouraged to refer students they feel could benefit from the support and services provided by the TRIO program.

Cobb brings extensive experience in student support services and federally funded access programs to her new role, including previously serving as assistant director in an SSS program. Her professional background reflects a strong commitment to supporting historically underrepresented students and building programs that foster belonging, academic confidence and long-term success.
