History
In April 2024, the Ohio University Board of Trustees approved the construction of a new residence hall on the South Green and broke ground on the project as part of the University’s Housing Master Plan. The facility was named McDavis Hall in honor of President Emeritus Roderick J. McDavis. President McDavis began his tenure as the University’s first African American president and was only the second alumnus to lead the institution in its 211-year history. Over his 13 years as president, his transformative leadership championed initiatives that reshaped the University’s approach to education and community engagement.
The Roderick J. McDavis Residence Hall will be the largest residence hall on campus, offering 591 beds and an elevated residential experience designed to meet students’ evolving needs while fostering a strong sense of community.
