Building Type:

Campus Green:
Ridges Green
Current Use
The current use of the Land Lab is Teaching and Research. Faculty from Geography, Environmental and Plant Biology, and Biological Sciences use the Land Lab as a core component of field-based courses. In addition, faculty from other departments, e.g. Earth and Environmental Geosciences, have used the Land Lab for field trips.
History
The Land Lab was once part of the grounds of the former Athens Mental Health Facility. The Land Lab was approved by the Ohio University Board of Trustees in 1989 based on a proposal developed by faculty in the (then) Departments of Botany and Zoological and Biomedical Sciences). The faculty included Gerald Svendsen, Phil Cantino, and Scott Moody. The Land Lab has been managed by an Advisory Committee (originally created by Dean Donald Ecklemann and Associate Dean Harold "Spike" Molineau).
Location
The Ridges Green
The Ridges is on the hill across the Hocking River from the West Green. This part of the Athens Campus was previously the Athens Mental Health Center, a regional psychiatric hospital. Notable buildings on this green include Lin Hall, Kennedy Museum and Ridges Auditorium.
Experience Athens
People can tell you how great the Athens Campus is, but the best way to know whether it’s right for you is to see it—and experience it—for yourself.
