Spring 2021 Sustainability Film Series virtually explores environmental topics

The Athena Cinema, Alden Library and Environmental Studies program is presenting the spring 2021 Sustainability Film Series, in conjunction with Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the series will be held virtually.
The free screenings explore environmental racism and social justice to illuminate inequities both globally and domestically. The goal of the series is to assist viewers in understanding the deeply engrained racism and division that permeates our society and global communities.
Some of topics that will be explored this semester are the impact of climate change on communities, the critical nature of public lands and personal innovation in agriculture and bicycling.

- There’s Something In the Water (February 22)
- NO TIME TO WASTE: The Urgent Mission of Betty Reid Soskin (March 8)
- Rebuilding Paradise (March 15)
- Motherload (April 5)
- In Celebration of Earth Day! The Need to Grow (April 19)
The free screenings and panel discussions, held at 7 p.m., offer deeper insight to the environmental issues and solutions discussed in the films. Faculty members, students and community members typically comprise the panels.
The Sustainability Film Series offers attendees the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding of global environmental sustainability challenges and solutions with a goal of bringing the community together. Through this integration, participants gain new perspectives and learn from each other.
This is the eighth year the Sustainability Film Series program has been offered. The series works in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, Ohio Honors Program, Ohio University Climate Ambassadors, Center for Campus Engagement, Cutler Scholars Program and Honors Tutorial College.
