Meet the Team

Director's Note

It is my pleasure to introduce you to our Veterans and Military Student Services Center support team. This team consists of dedicated Ohio University employees, VA work-study students, members of our student led S.E.R.V.E. (Support, Empower, Reward Veterans Education) team, and our Military Community Advocates (MCA).

Together, we serve a common purpose: to support and empower military-connected students in every stage of their academic journey. This team has a simple mission:

  1. To be a resource for all military-connected students to enhance their university experience.
  2. To help faculty and staff better understand and support the unique needs of military-connected students.
  3. To build and sustain a vibrant military service community through inclusive programming, meaningful service opportunities, professional development, and ongoing engagement.

At Ohio University, we understand that the transition from military service to college life—and from college to civilian careers—comes with unique challenges and opportunities. Our team is here to walk alongside you, offering guidance, advocacy, and a sense of belonging. Whether you are an active-duty service member, veteran, reservist, ROTC cadet, or military family member, our services are designed with you in mind.

From benefits counseling and peer support to leadership development and community service, our Center is committed to your success—academically, personally, and professionally. We are proud to serve those who have served, and we look forward to being a part of your journey at Ohio University. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, stop by the Veterans Center in Baker University Center 350, or get involved with our programs and student groups. You are always welcome here.

Respectfully,

Terry St. Peter

Steve Goodwin

Suite 350

Hello, my name is Steve Goodwin, and I am an Army veteran pursuing a degree in Organizational Studies at Ohio University. During my time in the Army, I served as a combat medic and worked in several different roles throughout my military career, including a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I joined the SERVE team because I am passionate about helping veterans and their dependents understand and access the benefits they have earned.

One of my goals within SERVE is helping create a more connected and interactive environment where military-connected students feel supported, included, and informed throughout their academic journey. I enjoy working on outreach, communication, and finding new ways to strengthen the sense of community between both online and campus environments. I also speak conversational Spanish and enjoy helping connect with all types of people from diverse backgrounds.

When I am not working or taking classes, I enjoy spending time with family, studying leadership and philosophy, and honestly exploring just about any topic that catches my interest.

I'm originally from Warren, Ohio, and currently a junior at Ohio University, majoring in Aviation Flight. In addition to my studies, I have been serving as an Electrical and Environmental Journeyman on C130s with the Air Force Reserves at the 910th Airlift Wing since January 2023.

Since my freshman year, I’ve been working at the Veterans Center, where I’ve had the opportunity to support and connect with other military-affiliated students. My military-connected background has shaped who I am and drives my passion for giving back to this community. Being involved with the Veterans Center and serving as president of the Student Veterans of America has allowed me to help build a welcoming and supportive environment for those transitioning into or continuing their academic journey. One of the most rewarding parts of my college experience has been connecting with others who share similar experiences and helping them succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Military Info: Active-duty navy from 2015-2024, switched to reserves in 2024 to present

Involvement: My ultimate goal is to take my education and continue onto serving and counselling Veterans and Survivors of Assault. Working with the veteran center was a no brainer and offered opportunities like the MCA scholarship I am currently involved in with working with the campus SAP program.
