Ohio University joins national climate change initiative

ATHENS, OH (June 12, 2017) — Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis has signed a commitment to the international community to endorse actions being taken at local and state levels to address climate change in support of the Paris Agreement.

The open letter, entitled “We Are Still In,” calls upon governors, mayors, businesses, investors and colleges and universities from across the U.S to join together in support of climate action to meet the Paris Agreement.

"Human impact on climate change is real, and the threat to our planet is undeniable. Ohio University chooses to lead by example by working toward a sustainable future in every capacity we can,” said Ohio University President M. Duane Nellis. "I am proud to stand with my university colleagues from across the nation as we continue to support climate action to meet the Paris Agreement."

President Nellis' decision to sign the initiative aligns with OHIO’s nationally recognized efforts including its Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan, which outlines the University’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2075. Furthermore, Ohio University’s Office of Sustainability works hard to provide service and support to the campus community, advocate for innovation and research and ensure fulfillment of the University's commitments to environmental, social and economic well-being. OHIO is also home to the largest in-vessel composting system at any college or university in the nation.
