Building Bobcat Success: Competencies for Career Development

Build Your Success

On-campus jobs offer more than a paycheck; they’re a valuable stepping stone toward future career success.

Building Bobcat Success is an interactive Canvas module created to help empower students to make the most of their on-campus employment experience. Within the 20–30-minute module students will learn the skills employers are actually looking for, identify their strengths and areas of improvement, and create meaningful goals for professional growth.

While this is not a “traditional course” in the sense that there are no grades, assignments guide students through development and articulation of the top skills employers seek.

Competencies for Career Development Module Through collaboration with Career Services, the Building Bobcat Success module on Canvas will help you to evaluate your current areas of preparedness so you can identify target areas that you want to develop. The core competency areas follow.

For higher education, career readiness provides a framework for addressing career-related goals and outcomes of curricular and extracurricular activities, regardless of the student’s field of study. For employers, career readiness plays an important role in sourcing talent, providing a means of identifying key skills and abilities across all job functions; similarly, career readiness offers employers a framework for developing talent through internship and other experiential education programs.
