Register now to join the 14-Day Writing Challenge
Ohio University is partnering with the NCFDD to host a private 14-Day Writing Challenge, running from Monday, Nov. 2 - Sunday, Nov. 15, 2026.
This is an open and free 14-day challenge exclusive to OHIO scholars through partnership with the NCFDD and will be led by Dr. Mary Kate Hurley, associate professor of English. The purpose of the challenge is to build campus community alongside providing accountability and support in building consistent and sustainable progress on research and scholarly projects.
Participants will spend at least 30 minutes each weekday working on any tasks that advance their scholarly project. The deadline to register through the NCFDD website is Friday, Oct. 25. Anyone who wishes to join the writing challenge will need to activate their individual NCFDD membership if they have not done so already.
“This framework will help you stay focused and make significant headway on your manuscript, research paper, thesis, or any scholarly work,” Hurley said.
All Ohio University scholars, including graduate students and staff, can join the challenge. Expectations include
- Commitment to write for at least 30 minutes Monday – Friday for two weeks
- Tracking writing and progress through the WriteNow online community
- Spending five minutes supporting other writers by commenting on their progress
Participants will also be invited to optional orientation meetings and daily writing hours during the writing challenge.
