Call for applications for OHIO’s General Education Faculty Fellows Program
Ohio University's Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost invites applications for four General Education Faculty Fellow positions for the remainder of the 2026–2027 academic year.
These fellowships offer an opportunity for faculty to help shape the future of general education at Ohio University by bringing their disciplinary expertise, teaching experience and collaborative leadership to this important university-wide initiative.
As Ohio University revises its general education curriculum and courses in response to Ohio House Bill 96, the University is working to build on the strengths of its existing curriculum while creating a more coherent and connected educational experience for students. This work seeks to strengthen the connections between general education, students’ academic majors, and the knowledge and competencies they will need for success in their careers, communities and lives.
Faculty Fellows will work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and campuses to develop resources that support faculty in integrating important skills and competencies into existing general education courses and making these skills and competencies more visible to students.
Available Faculty Fellow positions
1. Civic Skills, Culture and Society Faculty Fellow
This Fellow will work with faculty to strengthen the development of civic knowledge, civil discourse and constructive engagement within Ohio University’s general education curriculum. Responsibilities include examining existing American Civic Literacy courses, identifying opportunities to enhance shared content and developing instructional resources that can be incorporated into approved courses.
2. Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Problem-Solving Faculty Fellow
This Fellow will explore opportunities to strengthen students’ abilities to identify problems and opportunities, develop creative solutions, collaborate across disciplines and apply knowledge to real-world challenges. Responsibilities include examining existing Capstone courses and developing shared content and resources.
3. Computational Thinking Faculty Fellow
This Fellow will explore how computational thinking and related transferable skills can be more intentionally incorporated into existing Quantitative Reasoning general education courses. The work will emphasize computational thinking broadly, including problem decomposition, logical reasoning, data literacy, modeling and the application of computational approaches.
4. General Education Curriculum and Implementation Faculty Fellow
This Fellow will provide leadership and coordination for curricular processes associated with general education revisions. Responsibilities may include supporting the development and review of course proposals, developing guidance for faculty and departments, facilitating communication across academic units and working with the University Curriculum Council, the Individual Course Committee, the General Education Committee and Registrar’s Office on curricular approvals and implementation. This position is particularly well suited to faculty experienced in curriculum development, faculty governance, general education or collaborative curricular initiatives.
Anticipated deliverables
The three content-area Faculty Fellows (Civic Skills, Culture, and Society; Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Problem-Solving; and Computational Thinking) will collaborate with faculty and the UCC General Education Committee to identify opportunities to strengthen relevant competencies within existing general education courses.
Each Fellow will help develop a set of common instructional resources that faculty can incorporate into approved courses, including:
- Common course-description language that identifies the relevant knowledge and competencies addressed in the course.
- An additional course topic that supports the integration of the designated content area into existing courses.
- A Canvas module that includes one or more collaborative learning activities or assignments to support student learning.
These deliverables will provide faculty with practical, adaptable resources that strengthen consistency across general education courses while preserving disciplinary flexibility and faculty expertise.

- Compensation: Each Fellow will receive a $5,000 stipend in recognition of the leadership and service associated with the appointment.
