Ohio University students, faculty and staff should understand the importance of device encryption and document encryption.

Device encryption reduces the risk of exposing confidential data through stolen or lost equipment. By encrypting and protecting Ohio University-owned computers, OHIO is adopting an industry best practice that minimizes the risk of data exposure.

Encrypting at the file-level is a quick and easy way to ensure that your data is secured when stored or during transit, such as when being sent through email. 

In order to help students, faculty and staff with computer and device encryption, Ohio University’s Information Security Office has put together a website filled with information and resources.
