Securing your personal computer

If you use a personal computer for work or school at Ohio University, you are responsible for properly securing it in accordance with Ohio University's Desktop Management Standard. If you use an OHIO-managed machine, then your security settings are managed for you.

Ohio University’s Information Security Office has put together information to help students, faculty and staff better understand how to properly secure personal computers. The information includes tips on a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Backing up your data regularly
  • Using anti-virus software and firewalls
  • Encrypting your computer
  • Only installing trusted apps
  • Keeping devices updated
  • And much,  much more.

All members of the OHIO community are encouraged to read through the resources in order to help them stay safe.

You can learn more at this Information Security Office webpage.
