Science Café to feature Professor John Staser on April 8

Ohio University will host the last Science Café of the spring semester on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in the Baker University Center Front Room.  

Beginning at 5 p.m., the event will feature a presentation by Professor John Staser from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology.

Staser, whose research interests include electrochemical engineering for energy storage and conversion and environmental remediation, will be discussing  “A Better Way? Coal as a Renewable Energy Storage Material.”

In his research, Staser has worked with colleagues at Ohio University and within industry to develop coal-derived materials for electrochemical energy storage systems. Staser will discuss some of this research work in this Science Café presentation.

All members of the OHIO community are invited to attend in person or watch the livestream of the event.

The Science Café series is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and the Ohio University chapter of Sigma Xi, the national science honor society.

Each event features a dialogue/conversation between the presenter and audience, and the topics are based on the research of the faculty presenters.

Questions are posed by the presenter or raised by members of the audience. In addition, free coffee/tea/hot chocolate coupons are presented to the first 50 in attendance.
