Ohio University to add Sunday undergraduate Commencement ceremony for Spring 2027

Ohio University will expand its Spring Commencement schedule beginning in Spring 2027 by adding a third undergraduate ceremony to Commencement weekend to better serve graduating students and their guests. This addition will bring the total number of commencement ceremonies to five, honoring the achievements of OHIO’s undergraduate, graduate and medical students as they celebrate the culmination of their hard work and success.

The additional undergraduate ceremony will be held on the Sunday morning of commencement weekend, allowing the University to distribute graduates across three undergraduate ceremonies instead of two. The change is designed to enhance the overall commencement experience by creating smaller ceremonies that are more efficient and more focused on celebrating individual graduates.

With the addition of the third undergraduate ceremony, graduates and guests can expect more space and comfort, decreased traffic and a more personalized and celebratory experience, among other highlights.

The University has also begun coordinating with partners in the Athens community to ensure a smooth experience for visitors during commencement weekend. Local hotels, businesses and community partners in Athens, Ohio continue to be notified of the expanded schedule so they can prepare for the adjusted timing of ceremonies and visitor arrivals.

University officials encourage families to plan travel and accommodations in advance and to coordinate those plans around the specific ceremony date and time for their graduate.

The schedule for the Spring 2027 Commencement weekend is as follows:

• Friday morning, April 30, 2027 – Graduate Ceremony
  • Doctoral Degrees
  • Master’s Degrees
• Saturday morning, May 1, 2027 – Undergraduate Ceremony

  • Honors Tutorial College
  • Patton College of Education
  • University College
• Saturday afternoon, May 1, 2027 – Undergraduate Ceremony
  • College of Health Sciences and Professions
  • Scripps College of Communication
  • Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts
• Sunday morning, May 2, 2027 – Undergraduate Ceremony
  • College of Business
  • Russ College of Engineering and Technology
