OHIO community invited to upcoming Office of Research Compliance webinars

Ohio University’s Office of Research Compliance will be hosting two “Lunch and Learn” sessions in March and April for students, faculty and staff.

The upcoming sessions will be held on March 24 and Aril 21, and then a new series of webinars will be held during the fall semester.

Tuesday, March 24 webinar

The first topic to be discussed will be "Human Subjects Research about Existing Programs: How-Tos for IRB Protocol Submissions.”

This session will be held on Tuesday, March 24, from noon until 12:45 p.m. on Teams.

Are you planning a workshop or program and additional, optional research about the activity? During this session, participants will learn how to describe human subjects research projects in an IRB submission when some participants might be enrolled as participants in research about an existing program and other people might not be. Participants will also learn how to avoid common problems with this kind of IRB protocol submission and to address concerns about equity of participation. There will be time for questions and discussion about specific scenarios.

Tuesday, April 21 webinar

This "Lunch and Learn" will focus on "Getting to Know the Exempt Review Categories at Ohio University."

This session will be held on Tuesday, April 21, from noon until 12:45 p.m. on Teams.

A new and simpler IRB application form for exempt protocol submissions is coming by Fall 2026. During this session, participants will learn about what kinds of human subjects research qualify for exempt review at Ohio University. This discussion is designed for investigators new to human subjects research as well as experienced investigators curious about how exempt research is classified.
