Ohio University Eastern to host free community social work event March 5

Ohio University Eastern will host Compassion in Action: A Social Work Event on Thursday, March 5, 2026, bringing together students, alumni, practitioners and community partners for a day focused on professional growth and community engagement. The free event will take place on the Eastern campus and is open to students, professionals and members of the public.

The program is designed to support individuals at all stages of their professional journey. Attendees may earn free continuing education units while participating in a presentation, panel discussion and agency fair highlighting regional organizations and employment opportunities.

“Compassion in Action reflects the heart of social work, understanding, connection and service, and we’re proud to bring this opportunity to our campus and community,” said Warren Galbreath, associate professor of social work at Ohio University Eastern. “This event showcases the meaningful work social workers undertake every day and creates space for shared learning and professional inspiration.”

The event begins at 11 a.m. with a free CEU presentation, “From Awareness to Action: Empowering Body Autonomy in Social Work.” An agency fair will follow at noon, offering attendees the opportunity to connect with regional organizations. The day will conclude with a panel discussion at 1 p.m. featuring social work professionals from a variety of practice settings.

“Our students and regional partners benefit when we gather to learn from one another,” said Tracy A. Pritchard, LISW-S, professor of social work instruction, Child Welfare University Partnership Program campus coordinator and course instructor at Ohio University Eastern. “This event reinforces the power of community collaboration and elevates the voices of those making a difference in the lives of children, families and individuals across our region.”
