Ohio University gives final approval to two policies, invites feedback on additional policies

The Ohio University Executive Staff Policy Committee (ESPC) and OHIO President Lori Stewart Gonzalez have moved three policies forward and placed four policies up for community review.

The ESPC gave approval to the following policies on Jan.  23, 2026, and President Gonzalez granted approval on Jan. 29, 2026.

Policies given final approval

  • 01.001 – Policy on Policies - Ohio University is committed to the implementation and creation of comprehensive policies. This policy governs how the University creates, drafts, reviews, maintains, rescinds and approves all University policies.
  • 20.001 – Emergency Notification in Case of Student Death or Serious Injury - The purposes of this policy are to provide clear and consistent communication with media and the public, to limit negative effects caused by the circulation of misinformation, to demonstrate respect for the families of students affected by tragedy, and to allow for delivery of support services to students and others affected by tragedy.

Extended interim status

  • 55.030 – Purchasing - The purchasing department is committed to the efficient and economical acquisition of quality external goods and services in support of Ohio University's overall mission.

Policies placed in 30-day review period

  • 01.025 – Use of University Facilities - This policy is to establish a space governance structure to bring clarity, consistency and practical application to the management of University space, so that space is allocated and used in a manner that meets University strategic needs.
  • 02.002 – Banning - This policy identifies circumstances that may preclude a person's continued presence on property owned, leased or operated by Ohio University. Additionally, this policy establishes a process to be used for a person's immediate removal from University property, and/or forbidding their return for a specified period of time.
  • 40.022 – Community Service Leave Policy  - Ohio University's community service leave program grants eligible employees paid time off  for participation in non-profit volunteer work or to assist with educational activities for children, promoting community engagement and service.
  • 49.001 – Conflicts of Interest and Conflicts of Commitment Compliance - The purpose of this policy is to define standards and expectations for identification, disclosure, review and management of conflicts of interest, conflicts of commitment and outside activities. This policy ensures compliance with Ohio Ethics Law, applicable federal law, and other applicable state ethics regulations and Ohio University standards of conduct.
