Upcoming updates to VoiceThread, Panopto for OHIO students, faculty

Significant updates are coming this May to both VoiceThread and Panopto, promising a more streamlined and accessible experience for Ohio University instructors and students.

VoiceThread's new user interface and accessibility features

Starting the week of May 6, VoiceThread will roll out a new upgrade enhancing both usability and accessibility. This refresh will introduce a new user interface that simplifies navigation and adds several features aimed at making the platform more inclusive. These enhancements include:

  • Automated alt text for documents and PDFs
  • Manual alt text entry for images and other visual media
  • Audio descriptions for slides
  • Adjustable text size for comments
  • A zoomable interface
  • Full text transcripts for all captioned content

These improvements underscore VoiceThread's commitment to creating a user-friendly environment that caters to all learners.

Panopto's integration update within Blackboard

In the same timeframe, Panopto will be updating its integration within Blackboard to a single interface, LTI 1.3. This update will replace the current dual integration systems—building block and LTI 1.1.

Although this change is technical, it simplifies the process for users, as it maintains the continuity of service and aligns with Blackboard's phase-out of support for building blocks. The update will facilitate smoother integration and enhance video management across courses.
